Calgary Artists Way - Douglasdale/Douglas Glen/Quarry Park/Riverbend

The Calgary Artists Way is comprised of 54 original works of art that have been replicated on 72 nylon banners and installed on designated lamp posts in Douglasdale, Douglas Glen, Quarry Park and very soon RIVERBEND. Local artists and students from the area schools have donated their creations to the CAW. It should be noted that art submitted from Douglasdale School was a collaboration of 300 students who painted on standard 4 X 8 foot sheets of 10 pieces of plywood to produce multiple murals. Also, Monsignor J.S. Smith School submitted art work. At both schools, the art will be displayed on lamp posts adjacent to each school.

The goal of the CAW is to beautify the community and inspire all passers-by and uplift the spirits and instil pride and draw awareness of the visual arts through artist inspired banners and to unite the artistic community that is abundant in the participating communities according to founder Kim McCrimmon.

On these pages you will read about the 17 local artists/photographers who have permitted their art work to be replicated on nylon banners and installed on lamp posts. The CAW has been designated a legacy project. The realization of having original works of art replicated on banners was the creative vision of founder KimCrimmon in Riverbend.

The official unveiling of the banners will take place at the 1st Annual Art Festival on June 16th (rain date June 17th) at Douglasdale Park from noon to 3PM. The festivities will commence with the ceremonial ribbon cutting followed by the introduction of the 17 artists. Free hotdogs, chips, cookies and pop, free face painting and helium balloons will be available to all attending. We have procured a DJ to play music to add to the festive atmosphere. Admission is FREE with a food donation to the Calgary Food Bank. If Saturday is rained out, you are invited to join us on Sunday where the treats will be served regardless of the weather. Should Saturday be rained out, the artists will be present on Sunday and depending on the weather, their art work will be on display.

The Art Festival will become an annual event to highlight and recognize our diverse local artists/photographers and to usher in new and replacement banners that will replace worn and tattered banners. Everyone is welcome to partake in this event to support not only our community but the artists/photographers.
