Components of a design charrette

A charrette is an intensive process that takes place over several days.  The duration of the charrette depends on many factors, including the size and complexity of the area under consideration.  In the case of South Hill, the charrette will span 4 days. The process includes working with a number of community participants over two evening sessions within the 4 day period.  Community participants will work together with architects, planners, engineers, designers and other specialists to discuss issues related to the area, generate ideas for a vision for the area, and the development of the TOD plan.  On the Saturday, the proposed plans are open for public viewing and comments.  Each day during the charrette week, the designers will work on advancing the concept plans based on community and other stakeholder input.
