On June 21, 2016, Riverbend Community Association held its Annual General Meeting (AGM).

As part of the event, two local residents were given awards to honor their local service in helping making our community a better place to live through their positive efforts and dedication to this community.

Michelle Lambert has served as the Secretary to the Board of Directors.  Michelle initially joined the Board in March 2014.  After doing an outstanding job as Board Secretary, Michelle is returning to school.

Andy and Wanda Stafiniak are known as the owners of the Riverbend General Hardware store.  Recently, Andy and Wanda sold their interest in their store to a new owner.  Andy accepted the awards on behalf of himself and his wife, Wanda.

Back in 2001, Andy Stafiniak was looking for a change from his career and came across a listing for a quaint general store in Calgary's Riverbend neighbourhood.

The idea of a general store conjured up a quaint notion of a nostalgic prairie town where locals would come to get everything they needed for their home.

Both individuals received the following awards:  Toole Peete/Federation of Calgary Community Hero Award, Province of Alberta Volunteer Service Award from Brandy Payne, MLA for Calgary Acadia; and a City of Calgary Volunteer Service Award from Councilor Gian-Carlo Carra, City Councilor for Ward 9.

Riverbend Community would like to thank both of these individuals for their efforts and thank them both for making Riverbend a better place to live through their tireless efforts.
