Ongoing Roles -Current Opportunities:

Secretary

Purpose: The Secretary of the organization is primarily responsible for records management, meeting coordination and compliance

Time Commitment: The Secretary attends an Executive Meeting & a Board Meeting each month, in addition to the Annual General Meeting & other community meetings when called. They will be responsible for completing some tasks outside of meetings, primarily via email or online.

Setting: The role attends meetings, primarily at the community centre & may utilize a desk & computer at the CA office. They may also use their own computer/laptop at home to complete tasks.

Support: This role has a high degree of independence. Support will be provided to orient the volunteer to RCA systems and processes.

Screening: Our Executive positions are signing authorities for the community association and will be required to undergo a police check and complete our abuse awareness training.

Team: This position is a member of The Executive Team, which undertakes additional responsibilities for RCA operational matters and reports to the Board.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Records Minutes and Action Items for meetings
  • Prepares and sends out agendas and calendar invitations
  • Completes and files the Annual Societies Return and any other compliance documentation
  • Monitors and records attendance and quorum
  • Attends and participates in monthly Board and Executive meetings.
  • Ensures appropriate records management
  • Other duties as agreed to and assigned by the Board or Executive

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication stills
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Problem solving skills

Desired:

  • Experience taking minutes and preparing agendas
  • Experience with or willingness to self-learn the Google Suite of products including Google Drive and Google Docs.

VP Operations

Purpose: The VP Operations is primarily responsible for oversight of our facility and grounds.

Time Commitment: The VP attends an Executive Meeting & a Board Meeting each month, in addition to in addition to the Annual General Meeting & other community meetings when called. They also chair a Facilities Team meeting as needed, They will be responsible for completing some responsibilities outside of these meetings.

Setting: The role attends meetings, primarily at the community centre & may utilize a shared desk & computer at the CA office. They may also use their own computer/laptop at home to complete tasks.

Support: This role has a high degree of independence. Support will be provided to orient the volunteer to RCA systems and processes.

Team: This position is a member of the Facilities Team, which manages facilities projects and oversees building maintenance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the operations of the facility and grounds
  • Oversees the completion of required maintenance via staff, contractors & volunteers
  • Chairs the Facilities Team which is tasked with the following:
    • Monitoring and reviewing the life-cycle report
    • Prioritizing facility projects
    • Supporting grant application by sourcing quotes and estimates
  • Attends and participates in monthly Board and Executive meetings.
  • Acts as signing authority for RCA banking and financial transactions.

Director of Community Programs and Events

  • Managing the annual events and programs calendar
  • Seeking out new program/event offerings for RCA
  • Setting up Program/Event registration using online platforms and databases
  • Recruiting Event leads
  • Liaising with RCA sports leagues
  • HELPFUL SKILLS: Event Management, Project Management, Databases
  • Time commitment: 2-3 hours/ week, which includes attending monthly board meetings, attending AGM, as well as supporting specific activities of roles as outlined in the Strategic Plan

Director of Volunteer Resources

  • Responding to volunteer Expressions of Interest via email & phone
  • Promoting volunteerism at Community Meeting & Events
  • Coordinating Volunteer Lists for Events
  • Developing volunteer recognition strategy
  • Maintaining volunteer database
  • HELPFUL SKILLS: Human Resources, Customer Service
  • Time commitment: 2-3 hours/ week, which includes attending monthly board meetings, attending AGM, as well as supporting specific activities of roles as outlined in the Strategic Plan

Director of Community Advocacy

  • Liaising with Ward 12 Office, City of Calgary representatives and Calgary Police regarding safety, planning, traffic etc.
  • Supporting development of content for Riverbend Review Newsletter on safety, planning, traffic etc.
  • Monitoring and replying to Facebook posts on safety, planning, traffic comments related to Riverbend
  • HELPFUL SKILLS:, Networking, Customer Service, Social Media
  • Time commitment: 2-3 hours/ week, which includes attending monthly board meetings, attending AGM, as well as supporting specific activities of roles as outlined in the Strategic Plan

Communications Coordinator (Newsletter Editor)

Purpose: support external communication activities of RCA as directed by the VP Communications.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/ week. Attend occasional communication team meetings, Annual General Meeting and other meetings as available.

Setting: Use own computer/laptop at home to complete tasks.

Support: This role works independently but with a high degree of support. Orientation will be provided to RCA systems and processes.

Team: This position is a member of the Communications Team, which manages all communication activities of the Association.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Request articles from board members and community partners r
  • Source articles from other sources;
  • Copyedit all articles; includes correcting grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of style, etc;
  • Edit articles, as required (relates to obvious errors in use of language, facts, being politically correct, being sensitive to the community as a whole, etc.);
  • Provide material (electronic copies of articles, pictures and/or artwork) to publisher as per publisher timelines;
  • Act honestly and in good faith with a view of the best interests of the Association;

Short-term roles-Current Opportunities

Casino Fundraiser

RCA is eligible to participate in a casino fundraiser about every 2 years. Next RCA casino is scheduled for April 16 and 17, 2020 at Deerfoot Inn Casino.

GENERAL MANAGER/ ALTERNATE GENERAL MANAGER

  • Responsible for total operation of casino including gaming floor, security, cashier's cage and count room.
  • Ensures a sufficient number of volunteers for each day.
  • Must be present in the Casino at all times during table game operations.
  • Ensures signed cheques are available to pay expenses on the beginning of the first day.
  • Controls drop box keys.
  • Substitutes in volunteer positions on their breaks and in unavoidable staffing emergencies. (General Manager/ Alternate is not expected to fill staff positions under normal circumstances.)
  • Should review Casino Terms and Conditions booklet before casino.

BANKER

  • Controls Cashier's cage floats of chips and cash.
  • Assisted by Cash Cage Advisor
  • Busy only during opening, volunteer shift changes and closing of casino.
  • Keeps track of all cash/chip transfers on Casino Track.
  • Mathematical skills helpful.

CASHIER

  • Cashes in chips for players and makes change.
  • Cashier has own float - does not share cash/chip float with anybody.
  • This position is quite challenging, and requires concentration and accuracy.
  • This position not recommended for color blind volunteers.
  • Good manual dexterity is helpful.

CHIP RUNNER

  • Courier (runner) for chip orders (requests) from casino games.
  • Volunteer must be prepared to move around.
  • Position is usually busy at opening and closing of casino.
  • Volunteer must be able to carry up to five pounds (2 kilograms) of chips

COUNT ROOM SUPERVISOR

  • Works with Count room Advisor in recording cash counts and game wins and losses.
  • Administrative skills useful, good math (number) skills are very helpful.
  • Not required to handle cash.

COUNT ROOM STAFF

  • Sorts, amalgamates, counts and verifies all cash from table game drop boxes.
  • Cash handling skills are an asset.
  • Volunteers should be good working with their hands

Other roles

Rink Volunteers

This team of volunteers help maintain RCA skating rinks (snow removal, flooding etc.) Usually between November and February only.

Special Event Leads

Take a lead role in coordinating the event based on the developed plan and budget. Duties vary depending on the event.
