2021 Annual General Meeting - Recap

Thank you everyone for attending our Annual General Meeting that was held on Nov. 16! We had a great turnout!
Below are some of the highlights from the meeting:

President Olga Maciejewski opened with a land acknowledgement. Riverbend is located on traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3). The agenda was passed and the President thanked everyone for attending. The President introduced the Board of Directors, key volunteers, retired volunteers and staff as well as guests from the City of Calgary and our MLA office.

The Treasurer Stuart Russel-Gibson presented a summary of the 2020-2021 RCA Audited Financial Statements. With a full year featuring the COVID-19 pandemic we saw increase in share revenue from government grants and subsidies. We saw a decrease in event revenue and community events due to the pandemic. Even so, revenue did increase slightly and expenses did not exceed projections from the previous year. Capital assets have increased from the previous year, with completed renovations on the community center we have been able to preserve more funds. We continue to be diligent with spending and our financial position is much more stable than previous years. Membership approved the audited financial statements as presented. Members supported the motion to delegate authority of appointing an auditor for the next fiscal year after proposals are obtained from a few accounting firms.

Director of Community Beautification Pat Medhurt presented the 2021 RCA Annual Report. Much has been accomplished including events, social media numbers, and partnerships. Five new directors have been added to the RCA in the last 14 months. Two more positions are still unfilled including Directors of Traffic, Safety & Crime Prevention as well as Business Administration. A request for help was formally made for available volunteers to step forward, or spread the word about the need. If you are interested or know someone who would, please submit an expression of interest via our website on our volunteering page.

The following directors were elected for the 2-year term:

  • Board Secretary: Pragna Chandraseknar

  • Director, Information Technology: Ryan Munday

  • Director, Events: Kathleen Colmant

The official part of the meeting ended at 7:20 p.m.

President Olga Maciejewski brought forward highlights of the 2021 Community Engagement Survey. Please click here for full details.

Community Beautification Ideas and Projects

Community Beautification has been identified as a top priority for our community in the 2021 Community Engagement Survey. Projects and ideas that we heard about from the community were classified according to the cost and effort required as illustrated on the graphic. Background information was provided for each project and idea. Details are available on our website as well as will be featured in the next issue of the newsletter. All the ideas presented need passionate individuals to spearhead them and make our community more beautiful. If you are interested or know someone who would, please submit an expression of interest via our website: www.riverbendcommunity.ca/volunteering

This concludes the 2021 Riverbend Annual General Meeting. Thank you to everyone who participated and brought forward questions, ideas and suggestions.
